In order to store data in an organized manner, operating systems now give you a feature to create separate partitions out of your HDD or SSD based storage. Microsoft has always been supporting this small yet powerful feature. But many times, you may fill up on some particular partition very soon. This results in the lack of space for that partition and hence makes the entire process of using your computer slower as a large chunk of files are to be indexed in a smaller partition. So for this, either you need to delete other partitions to allocate their storage to your partition that is short on storage or just recreate the partition so that all the useless data is deleted and you can start afresh with the overflowing partition. So, today we will be discussing how to delete any storage partition from your Windows 10 computer using Disk Management, Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell.

So I've just got a new ssd and used clonezilla to copy everything from one hardrive to another.
I want to be able to extend my hardrive to use all the memory, but there's a partition in the way. (872 MB NTFS Healthy (OEM Partition)) I know I can use third party tools to extend stuff when the partitions are not next to each other but I want to understand what this block partition is.
Is the the left over boot app from clonezilla? How can I remove it?

As per TypeID | Microsoft Docs , 'OEM Partition' simply means that it has a partition type code of
0x12
, 0x84
, 0xDE
, 0xFE
, or 0xA0
. As you can see from the corresponding table entries in Wikipedia, these partition type codes are known to be used for OEM recovery partitions (that have FAT/FAT32 FS) and for hibernation cache for various proprietary technologies (likely no general-purpose FS).It's impossible to say anything more without looking at its contents.
To view a partition's contents, you need to
- Somehow guess its filesystem (and if it has a filesystem at all)Usually, you can guess that by looking at the hexdump of the first sector of the partition. Most filesystems have some signature 'magic bytes' there.There are many tools that can do this, including BootICE, Acronis Disk Director, and
dd
(and likely GParted) from System Rescue CD. - Mount that filesystemThis is completely specific to the OS and/or the tools. E.g.
- In Linux (including System Rescue CD), you use
mount
. - Acronis Disk Director can show contents without explicit mounting but you may need to change the partition type for it to be able to guess the filesystem.
- In Windows, you mount by assigning a letter to the partition in Disk Management. But Windows can only mount a few filesystem types that it knows of. And you need to first change the partition type to the value corresponding to that filesystem. This may break the system if the partition is in active use by some running software.
- In Linux (including System Rescue CD), you use

See http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/how_to_delete_an_oem_partition.htm to remove the partition.
However, it would likely be a better idea to configure the new drive correctly in the first place, then copy the partition(s) that you want.

How to resize and move partition with ease in Windows 10, not in Windows Disk management but in disk partition managing software Partition Expert. Since you may have known than low disk space alter is really annoying in Windows 10, I think it's better for us to go the steps directly before it's too late When Windows 10 Insider Preview go public
1. Run Partition Expert Free Edition after installed, or run it directly from the portable edition without installation
2. Now we have low disk space in C Drive, but much free space in D Drive, so we click D Drive first and select Resize Move Volume
3. OK, we'll explain more on this new window, on top of which we have a partition bar and we have two borders on both sides, they can be dragged to left and right when unallocated space goes ahead or the end of them. when you hover the mouse at the middle of this partition bar, the cursor becomes a cross, which means we can move the whole partition to the end of the head of the bar, so it's the most commonly used way to resize or move partition
Behind the partition bar, we have a Maximum hint, that's the capacity this partition can be resized to
- Apart from the dragging methods, we have an alternative one: directly type in Volume Size section, you can directly type the maximum size to extend partition, so this section is about extend/shrink partition, cannot move partition here;
- Unallocated Space Before: this section is to move partition; it means how much unallocated space you'd like to keep aside at the head of the partition, when you type some number in it, the whole partition move to the right side of the bar, but partition size is not changed; hence this section is to move partition to the end and move unallocated space to the head;
- Unallocated Space After: the theory is the same to the upper one, but to move partition to the head, unallocated space to the end;
- Mini Disk Map: when you drag, or type in number to resize, the section will show the result in real-time and you can click OK to proceed if this preview satisfies you
In order to extend C Drive, we'd like to shrink D Drive first, so decrease D Drive and click OK and Extend C Drive like this

The recovery partition is a dedicated partition on your PC’s hard drive or SSD used to restore or reinstall the operating system in event of system failure.
The recovery partition comes in handy when you want to restore your Windows 10 or reset your Windows 10 to factory settings. But since Windows 10 can be reinstalled or reset without the help of the recovery partition, many users prefer to delete the dedicated recovery partition to free up valuable disk space. On top that, Windows 10 allows you create a USB recovery drive so that you can use the USB recovery drive if and when required to restore your PC.

Step 4: In a few seconds, you will see the following screen where you need to carefully select the USB drive that you want to use for preparing the recovery drive.
Please backup all the data from the USB drive as the drive will be completely erased before preparing the recovery drive.
Once you select the USB drive, click Next button.
